Antonio Borsato was a religious man that brought life to his sculptures. A gifted hand able to depict humor and sensitivity in all the figures he created. This particular sculpture is no exception. From the finely painted facial features, to the tiny sculpted fingers, this Madonna and Child brings out the sensitivity and love it represents. This was an earlier sculpture that has endured the years fairly well. Each one of Borsato's figurines is different in detail or colouring and no two are exactly alike. This sculpture measures 9 1/2" tall by 8" wide by 7" deep. There is a lace fringe on the pillow the Virgin sits upon. There is also lace on her cuffs and at the top of her head scarf. The piece is signed A Borsato as seen in the photos. The original labels are on the base. There is a small tiny chip out of the child's index finger which has been restored. Other than that there is only a slight paint loss on the back which has flaked off. A wonderful piece from a talented artist that sadly met his fate in 1982. His pieces are well sought after.
