Gorgeous vintage aqua tint by listed illustrator Mariette Lydis.It depicts a young girl with ballet slippers on. The illustration is very well done . Signed in lower corner by Mariette in Crayon or black pencil. The inside art measures 24 1/3" by 18 1/2". The overall framed size is 28 3/4" by 23 1/2" wide.The frame is a gold wooden frame some age wear.Her art work is becoming more popular and much sought ofter. biography Born Mariette Ronsperger in Vienna on August 24, 1887. Mariette married Jean Lydis in 1922. She departed from Vienna and Lydis arriving in Paris on the arm of the Italian writer Massimo Bontempelli. She eventually became a French citizen. In 1928 she married Comte Giuseppi Govone, an art publisher. An accomplished engraver, painter and illustrator, Lydis was a member of the Salon d'Automne. She escaped Paris and the ensuing German roundup of Jews, living for a brief time in Winchcombe, England before sailing as a refugee to Buenos Aires in 1939. She lived and worked in Argentina until her death on April 26, 1970.
