This 14" doll is mask faced, hand painted on a cloth stuffed body from the 1920s. She is one of the Russian dolls made for export to show the world the elaborate regional costumes of Russia. This doll is dressed as a woman from the Moldovian region, the middle Volga River area. She is in good condition and her costume is complete aside from the wool puff on the end of one of her earrings. Her tag lists her region and says "Made in Soviet Union" the period of the 1920s, which saw a brief resurgence of limited capitalism called the NEP period for "New Economic Plan". I show her also with a companion - the Village Boy, who is sold separately in our store.
