This lovely little 5 inch doll is Mistress Mary, Quite Contrary, how does your garden grow? from the well-known nursery rhyme.
She is painted bisque with stiff legs and all-original. Her costume is complete and in unplayed with condition. She is without her box or tag.
These little dolls were the first doll made for adult collectors. Nancy Ann Abbott was an actress who made the doll's costumes out of wardrobe scraps originally for her friends. She went on to be one of the successful woman entrepreneur dollmakers of the 20th century.
These dolls from the early 1940s are currently very affordable, made in the USA and make nice additions to any collection. I have about 50 of them in my own collection.
