This striking doll is a great example of the German dolls made to compete with Jumeau, Bru and the other great French dollmakers. I am very fond of this mold, which is marked 136. She has a bisque socket head with delicate bisque, brown glass inset eyes, rich dark eyeliner, painted lashes, brush-stroked brows, accented nostrils, closed mouth with outlined lips, pierced ears, dimpled chin, French composition and wooden fully-jointed body, with 8 balls and straight wrists. She wears a lovely silk and brocade costume made by a Russian seamstress in appropriate fabric and lace. Her French leather shoes incised "6". circa 1882.
Marks: 136 10 on the bisque head.
Condition: High quality bisque with no damage or restoration. Her early body has some reinforcement around the neck, which does not affect display.
