This vintage 1940s gold-filled locket is a good example of the Victorian Revival designs of this era. Post-WWII saw a renewed romanticism in fashion and jewelry that borrowed a lot of its look from the 1890s. This piece has the longer oval shape and hand engraving we would see in older pieces, but the scale is a little smaller (and more wearable) than most true Victorian lockets. This inside has the amazing luck of still having both frames to hold pictures. These are often lost over the years. This piece has very pretty nuances of design in the embellishments to the shield engraving and the decorative top of the locket. Wear this alone as a lovely keepsake, or stack it with other necklaces.
This 1940s Victorian Revival locket is in very good vintage condition. There are NO signs of damage or repair. There is some wear to we would expect with age, but this is very subtle and helps us confirm that it is vintage. The inside of the locket has a darker patina, but this doesn’t hurt the piece and cannot be seen once pictures are in the locket. The chain is also vintage gold-filled. It has some spots of discoloration, but this is also subtle and part of the vintage beauty. The clasp works just like new and there are NO broken links.
This vintage oval locket measures apx. 0.90” x 1.30”. It hangs apx. 1.66” total from the top of the ring bail to the bottom of the locket. The curb link chain measures apx. 18” long. Both the chain and the locket are marked for goldfilled metal. The clasp is original to the piece and looks a little different than we would expect. This is NOT broken. It is an older style used from the 1920s to 1940s.
