Vintage Austin Productions bookends representing two famous sculptures the Thinker & the Philosophizing Monkey from the early 1960s still in good condition. The Monkey bookend represents the original sculpture by Rheinhold Parastone from 1892 the Philosophizing Monkey. This appeared in the Berlin Art Exposition of 1893. The Monkey has a bass of 5 by 5 ½ inches and is 9 ¼ inches tall. Its base has a chip out of it but the new owner can leave it that way or paint over it; the chip does not hurt the base. The other bookend, the Thinker, was made by Auguste Rodio. The Thinker has a base of 4 ¼ inches by 4 ½ inches and is 9 3/8 inches tall. Each bookend shows white areas in the pictures; this is where the bronze paint has been rubbed off. Both pieces are made of Dura stone which makes it very hard to chip them and they are heavy. We are selling these as a set.
