Made in late 18th century, probably in Southern New England. This is a stately piece with wonderful tiger maple graining on all of the drawer panels. The chest itself is of solid cherry with good color and graining throughout. What makes this chest more interesting is the replaced brass hardware on the chest which are impressed with Scottish thistles. The chest itself has wonderfully well carved and proportioned, slender tapering French feet that culminate in a thin point. The escutcheons are all of shield form in a contrasting mahogany veneer and each drawer is further accented with cross-banded borders. This is truly a great chest for any bedroom of any décor and draws the eye immediately to the wonderfully pronounced grain of the veneer panels on each drawer front. SIZE: 38” h x 42-1/2” w x 19-3/4” d. CONDITION: This chest has been nicely cleaned and repolished at some time. The brasses are very good replicas of period brasses and are stylistically correct. Color overall is a wonderful mellow reddish-brown. This chest is in very good condition overall.
