For your consideration, I offer this charming Victorian era toddler or baby coat with stunning removable capelet. It is an ivory or cream color made of a very soft wool or wool blend and is fully lined. It measures about 22 1/2" long, is 10" across shoulders and has long sleeves with rolled cuffs, mother of pearl buttons & scalloped collar and cuffs. The capelet is completely removable and could be used on other fashions as desired. It is the capelet that makes this coat a stand out. The edges are trimmed in crocheted type lace and there are embroidered flowers on the front and back along with unique styling. My photos do not do this coat justice...it is lovely in person even with some old repairs, a few marks and a bit of fabric breakdown on the back of the collar. Please note...the coloring on capelet and coat is very similar...both are ivory/cream with the caplet a slight bit lighter than the coat...not yellowish as seen in photo...I had not noticed any difference in color before seeing the photos. Lovely addition to a child's clothing collection or display on your favorite large antique doll. From the late Anna Mary Herr estate of Lancaster County, Pa. She was the lone heir to her parents (Dr. John and Katherine) estate and inherited many pieces of fancywork done by skilled relatives. I believe the embroidery on this capelet was hand embroidered by a family member.
