From the beginning of the 1880s, I offer this neat old sample copy First Reader from Sheldon & Co Modern School Readers presented by William Linn, agent for Sheldon & Co., Philadelphia. Inside the front cover is a paper label from the company stating it is a sample and includes pricing. The first page is stamped "SAMPLE COPY FROM S. & CO." Following that page is suggestions to teachers and then the lessons begin. Many lessons are accompanied with artwork relating to the lesson, words, story, etc. Children learn a variety of lessons including reading, writing and practical life lessons..."the stove is very hot" means stay away!! This decorative brown cloth hard covered book is about 7 1/2" x 5 1/4" and shows wear and tear as expected of a book over 135 years old. Please forgive the marks and a few small rips or pencil marks inside and remember... Inside is a treasure trove of neat old pictures and lessons for young ones from a different era...I just love these old books, don't you!?
