The story on these little shoes goes like this: they were made in France during WWII and brought back to the states by a US soldier (Nurse) for at that time, a future baby. They are made from a brown heavy canvas fabric, given metal lace holes, soft tan flannel interiors, burgundy string laces with metal aglets and adorable fuzzy burgundy pom poms. They have never been used nor even laced...I show them as found but I did stuff one so you could see it a bit better. On the soles they are marked in ink: "France October 13, 1944" is on one shoe and "Shoes for ?" is written on the other. And here they are in pristine condition, still awaiting a baby's foot!!
