This antique wooden box has several unique features and will make a great addition to a collection. From the 1800s, it was handmade and the maker must have loved to incorporate different features that would make it special. The main box is made of oak so it is very durable and will last many many years (it is already over 100 years!). The metal hinged lid of the box has 3 tiers and when lifted, you will find another inner lid with a knob. Lift this and 2 compartments come into view which are lined with corduroy fabric. The box is 13" x 6" x 6" and has nail construction. On the outside, in addition to the unusual tiered lid, you will see applied molding painted white in contrast to the oak on both ends and the front. Finally, there is a wooden base that the box sets upon which is also tiered...this shows some corner wear on the underside mostly and is easily forgiven for a box of this rarity. Definitely will be a "one of a kind" and special addition to a collection!!
