Please take a good look at this beautiful antique baby gown or dress...you will love it!! Measuring about 23 1/2" from top to bottom, this gown has several wonderful characteristics. First of all, right below a delicate stand up lace collar, there is openwork and pin tucking outlined with a design of pink silk diamonds. On the outer edge of the "V" shaped design, lies stunning lace across the bodice which just catches your eye and draws you in. The lace is about 3" deep and extends over the 7 1/2" shoulders and cascades down the top of the sleeves. Below that comes more fabric with 3 rows of openwork, a horizontal fabric divider that separates the top from the lower skirt and delicate lace encircling the bottom edge and sleeve ends. The fabric is winter white in color probably due to age and is crisp to the touch. As seen in one photo, there is an age mark (about pea sized) on the bottom front...I have not tried to remove it. The back of the gown is open at the top 8" down which was never finished...raw edges of the fabric need to be stitched and a pin would be needed to close since there are no buttons or holes. There are some other faint marks here and there in back but overall condition is simply wonderful for being over 100 years old. So precious, it would look stunning on a large antique doll or on display. You could even use it as a Christening dress as that was probably it's intended original purpose. A must have for any serious collector of antique baby clothes!
