If you like Black mammy dolls, then this is for you. This girl is about 11" tall and was handmade many years ago. She has been in storage in a box since I found her in the 70s and she was already "old" when found!....thus the great condition of her totally hand stitched clothing. She has a wire frame which is wrapped in what appears to be raw cotton like fiber which gives shape to her body, arms and legs. Her head however is a puzzle for me. I know walnut shells were often used as heads and this could be the underneath but over top is a coating of something else...not sure what it is but may be a dough type mixture that dried hard. She has bead type eyes and blonde human hair on her head. Her nose seems to have flattened over time and her mouth has a quirky smile. (See last photo). Her clothing are in nice condition with no fading...including the under garments with lace trim. She is wearing leather boots but one has seen better days while the other is pristine! See next to last photo to see the cotton wrap above one boot. Someone took special care to make her and she needs a new home where she will be appreciated for all those years of being tucked away!!
May my treasures bring you JOY!
