Here is an antique petticoat that came from a Mennonite or Amish farm sale many years ago. One side is black and the other is a dark green. It has the original contrasting colored waist band... 36" plus ties. It is about 38" long and has the quilting done in the lower 20 inches with a diamond shaped pattern. The hand quilting has 8-9 stitches to the inch. Along the bottom is a strip of black velvet. It seems that the green side was meant to be the outer side as it has a more finished look along the velvet and also more wear to the fabric in places. I have shown one area where some repairs need to be made. If used on the black side, minimal wear is seen. I have used this petticoat as a skirt when giving talks on antiques in years past. It certainly would have helped to keep one warm in the winter as it is fully lined. A neat piece of the past!
