I love the old redwork pieces and this one in my opinion is a rarity. The idyllic nature of this piece just called out to me...the peaceful country setting reminds me of long ago days when I was a child journeying through a nearby meadow filled with wildflowers and chasing butterflies! I can almost smell the sweet scents of the pasture grasses. Off in the distance I could see the old stone farmhouse and barn and hear the bellow of a cow or two. So, how could I not fall in love with this redwork piece when found??! It is about 22" long x 16 1/2" wide. The linen background lies host to a skillfully done scene outlined in red stitching which some call redwork and others refer to as "turkey red". It could benefit from an ironing and there is a dark mark near the top edge but I would just fold this over to hide the mark and perhaps pin or add a few stitches to make a pocket for a dowel rod for hanging...or, one could frame it if so inclined. Either way, I hope it takes others back to the good old days too!!
