Frank C. Herbst (American; 1890-1966) Mill Scene, Oil on Board, ca. 1940

Lovely impressionist painting of a rural scene with a mill building and neighboring properties. Very likely the Delaware River area as he was living close by at the time. The inclusion of a few of an automobile at the time was unusual and adds to the dating of the work. Herbst’s use of color and confident brushstrokes add to the powerful nature of the depicted scene.

The painting measures 8” x 10” and comes in a period frame, 9” x 11” overall dimensions. Both the painting and frame are in very good condition.
