I’m pleased to offer a wonderful brooch made by the Howard Sterling Co. Of Providence RI, in business 1878-1902.
The Howard Sterling company, is not as famous as companies such as Shiebler or Gorham, but many of their jewelry designs rivaled or even topped, those of their competitors.
Brooch is beautifully detailed, I have no idea about the subject but it looks like a head of a mythological figure. The similarities to Shiebler Jewelry is striking, both in subject and construction. I’ve only seen the type of clasp fittings like the one on this brooch, on Shiebler Jewelry.
Signed on the back with the Howard Sterling Co. hallmark, four leaf clover and sterling in a horseshoe around it.
Condition: excellent and all original.
Measurements: 2 5/8” long by 3/4” at the widest point
