The Art of the Blacksmith is a "Special Show Exhibit" just waiting to happen as strength and skill are two required elements that have forged our country forward during the past two centuries.
Offered here is a wonderful example of the blacksmith's art in an American Double Heart Trivet.
The twisted handle which has been forge welded at the back end, continues in a linear form to terminate in a spade foot that is replicated twice more as feet on this trivet and once on the interior design heart element. Most likely created and gifted as a token of affection, heart decorated objects of the 18th and 19th century are treasured by collectors of folk art as well as ironware. The size of this trivet indicates it was most likely used with a sad iron or early cast plate iron.
The patina is a softened, pitted surface clean and free of lose recent rust.
