This is a signed Art Deco silver jadeite platinum diamond and onyx vanity case circa 1925. For anyone who loves the glamour, luxury and style of the roaring 20's this is a must have item! The case is made of silver and the exterior is covered in black enamel. The interior is vermeil (gold plated) and contains a removable lipstick holder and 2 powder compartments with hinged covers. The push piece is faceted onyx. Adorning the cover is a beautifully carved antique jadeite plaque. There are 41 platinum set rose cut diamonds adorning the jadeite. 5 diamonds are set within the jadeite carving and 36 diamonds are set on either side. The black enamel is in very good condition. There are minor surface scratches on the back but no chips or cracks. The mirror has some spots where the silvering has come off - these are seen as grayish circles on the mirror. The interior has French hallmarks and is signed Joel Helft Paris. Examples of other Helft creations are at Hillwood Museum - formerly in the collection of the legendary collector Marjorie Merriweather Post.
The jadeite measures 40 x 21 mm. The stone is a medium dark green with ocher/brownish overtones
There are some brighter green and ocher mottled areas. The jadeite has a medium texture and medium translucency.
Please note that unlike other items for sale in my Ruby Lane shop, this item is a final sale as the enamel and closure mechanism of the push piece are in very good condition but could be easily inadvertently damaged.
