She is gorgeous.
She stands approximately 24" tall and is wearing a gold brocade dress with complete rear bodice smocking with a sash, cotton eyelet slip and bloomers, and removable cloth shoes. She also sports a straw hat ringed with flowers.
A bit of history: Many well-to-do African American families of the period would commission dolls for their daughters from their seamstresses, dress designers and tailors. This doll is such a specimen.
She does have a few issues consistent with age: Her hair buns are loosening from their originally stitched-down position; her brocade dress as two one-inch threadbare spots; and there is a mild stain on the back of her dress. Photos of these issues are included with this posting. Please feel free to contact us for more information.
