A smart cuff link set from the Edwardian period. The cuff links are set with white mother of pearl centres, each centre has been engine turned to create an intricate design on the mother of pearl, a technique used in the early 1900s. The set is comprised of a pair of cuff links, four separate buttons and two smaller collar studs. All the individual pieces are set with a small transitional cut diamond. The diamonds have been milgrained set. The diamonds are lovely quality, F/G in colour and VS1/VS2 in clarity. On the back of the cuff links there are various markings. On one of the backs there is a marking of 585, this would indicate that the gold part of the cuff links are 14ct gold the outer edges of the cuff links are white so this part could be either gold or platinum. There are some other markings 765 and what looks like the initials RI. The initials would be the maker of the cuff links, having a makers initials would be a good indication that the cuff links are very good quality. The 765 I am not entirely sure what this number indicates, again it could be a model number from the maker. The cuff link part of the set are linked by a gold bar that has an opening; this would allow you to take out the link on either side maybe for cleaning. The two studs have a gold clip that would be used when fastening to the shirt. The cuff links are exceptional quality, you can imagine the night of the ball and the wearer getting dressed in a tuxedo and putting on his treasured cuff link set. There are no date marks on the cuff links, but I would say that they’re dated around 1910. The 585 mark for the gold standard would indicate to me that the cuff links are European maybe Dutch or German. The cuff links are in excellent condition. The size of each disc on the cuff link set is 13.9mm.
