Offered for sale as a lovely Chinese Export “paddy” bowl ca. 1770. This bowl has a beautiful hatched and dotted puce border below the orange/brown circle on its rim. The border has a darker puce scroll at its base, and there are six flower sprigs descending from this scroll toward the center of the bowl. Its center has a puce flower bouquet with a large rose central to its decoration. The edge of the bowl has a “pie-crust” outer border below the rim, and there are six flower springs below the pie-crust. These small bowls, used for sauce and condiments, were popular in every household in China in the late 18th C. Other than wear evident on five of the pie-crust peaks, the condition of this bowl is excellent. Please see my pictures!
