Offered for sale is an oval porcelain serving tray made by Herend in Hungary in the famous “Rothschild Bird” pattern. The tray has pink ribbons with bows on either side of the tray, and a gold line around its rim. There is a matching gold line about a half inch down from the rim, and a 1” segmented basket-weave border below this. The pink ribbon tails spill over the rim and onto the basketweave. The tray is decorated with multi-colored bugs, insects, and butterflies, some on the basketweave border, and some on the face of the tray surrounding the central “Rothschild Bird” pattern. The central pattern has two birds on brown branches with green leaves sprouting from a patch of ground. The higher bird is brown, orange and black with a yellow beak, a black eye and a speckled breast. The lower bird is brown, black and grey with a yellow and orange breast, a black eye and a yellow beak. The plot of grass that anchors the branches also has two shrubs, one on either edge. The underside of the tray has three red winged ladybugs and a similar blue winged bug, one on each edge of the underside. There is also a blue overglaze “Herend / Hungary” mark over “1942” indicating that as the tray’s date of manufacture. There is also an impressed “HEREND” over “1400” on the tray’s underside just off one of the ribbon ends. This tray is in “as made” condition with no imperfections or damages.
