Offered for sale is a set of six porcelain Chinese Export Rose Medallion butter pats made for export to the west in the late 19th C. There are five distinctly different medallion designs, with one pair of butter pats having the same decoration both top and bottom on their faces as shown in my pictures. These are in amazingly good condition for their age with much of their original gilt decoration still intact. Figures on four of the six have gilt highlights remaining in their hair indicating little use, with the other two showing more wear from use. There are no glaze chips, cracks or restorations on any of the butter pats. Each measures just 2 7/8” in diameter. The absence of maker’s marks on the reverse of these butter pats indicates that they were made some time in the late 19th C, but before 1893 when imported items needed to be marked with their country of origin.
