Offered for sale is a late 19th - early 20th C bas relief grape cabbage leaf cabinet plate which features three layers of grape cabbage leaves surrounding a central seed pod. The outermost leaves are hand painted with gilt, the central leaves are bright white with gilt painted veins, and the inner leaves are painted a turquoise blue highlighted with gilt veins, all surrounding a gilt decorated center filled with raised and textured seeds. Manufactured in Germany by the firm of New York & Rudolstadt Pottery for sale in the United States, this plate measures 5 3/4” in diameter tip-to-tip across the face of the plate. With a minimal amount of to-be-expected wear to its gilt edges, the plate is in lovely, undamaged, condition. Its reverse is clearly marked with an overglaze blue mark, an overglaze blue script “sg,” possibly the painter’s initials, and an impressed upside down “33” to the left of an impressed “44?3.”
