Offered for sale is a beautiful Chinese Export plate with gilded Famille Rose decoration made ca. 1750. The plate’s rim has a solid brown stripe and a narrow white border encircling a delicately painted lappet border along its wide rim and extending onto its serving surface. This border includes 6 gilt outlined segments, each with a large Famille Rose flower at its center surrounded by polychrome stems, leaves and flowers, and each segment is separated from its neighbor by a single slim stem with polychrome and gilt decoration. The center of the plate’s serving surface has a floral polychrome scene with a brown branch supporting a large yellow-centered Famille Rose flower among green leaves beneath a few smaller Famille Rose flowers with yellow centers to the left. And to its right is another Famille Rose flower painted between green and dusty-blue leaves, and with one yellow flower bud on a stem extending above it. There are also three small yellow petaled flowers scattered on the plate highlighting the branch and its flowers. The undecorated underside has a “Philip Dubey * Baltimore” label and a small red auction sticker. There are two very small chips at about 1 o’clock, and an even smaller chip at about 8:30, on its rim, and there is some minor fritting along its outer edge which is not visible from the front of the plate. (Please see my pictures.) There are no repairs on this plate and no restorations, and it has only minimal wear to its decoration from use and age.
