Offered for sale is a lovely pair of footed Chinese Export soup plates, each with matching Famille Rose decoration and made ca. 1770. Each plate has a delicately scalloped rim which is encircled by a gilt ribbon on its rim and highlighted by a second narrow gilt ribbon just inside the rim which follows its contours exactly. Inside this ribbon is a deep border decorated with:
**Two gilt-highlighted rose and white segmented clamshells, one at the top of the border and one at its bottom.
** Two pair of multi-colored two-flower bouquets with green leaves and stems, one on either side of the top clamshell.
**Two colorful birds, one on each side of the border. The left-most bird (the female) is pecking at two peaches nestled against famille rose, gilt and green leaves with the right-most bird (the male) keeping watch over a similar group of famille rose, gilt and green leaves, but with no peaches evident.
**Two final pair of multi-colored three-flower bouquets with green leaves and stems, one on either side of the lower clamshell.
This border slopes to the edge of each soup bowl. There is a chain and star gilt chain encircling the highest point of the soup bowl. This chain sits above a central bouquet with two butterfly and two birds fluttering nearby. The bouquet includes two large central pink roses surrounded by blue, yellow and purple blossoms, all with their stems tied in a bundle, and with green leaves and stems supporting and enhancing the blossoms. To the left of the bouquet are a butterfly above, and a long-tailed bird, possibly a peacock, below; and to the right are a flying bird above and a yellow-winged blue bug below.
There are no marks on either plate, as expected. One plate has the tiniest rim chip (see last picture) just to the right of the male bird, and there are no rim chips on the second plate. There are no repairs on either plate, and only minimal wear from use and age on each of them.
