This brown transferware plate is in the 'American Marine' pattern. The color is almost dark enough to be called chocolate brown. There is one spot on the center scene were the ink pooled when the transfer print was applied. There is also one small stained spot on the underside edge. I think I can feel a knick in the glaze there but it is tiny. The glaze has fine crazing which shows up more on the bottom. This is a soup plate shape so it is deep. This attractive plate would be great for someone interested in nautical themed items.
