This lidded stoneware jar has advertising for Le Pages white photo paste on the front. It reads "for all fine work, Le Page's white photo paste, Russia Cement Co., Gloucester, Mass." The jar originally held a gallon of paste. Le Pages glues were made in Gloucester Massachusetts by the Russia Cement Co. This company was founded in 1876 by William N. LePage. Russia Cement Co was originally in Boston but moved to Gloucester in 1905. The company's named changed to LePage's, Inc. in 1940. So, this fun advertising jar has to date to between 1905 and 1940. The jar shows wear with all over crazing, some crow's feet, and a chipped lid. There is also a crack in the bottom (visible on the inside but not on the exterior) and a ding below the word "cement". Please review all photos carefully to get the best idea of this interesting stoneware jar.
