This wax seal, stoneware, canning jar is finished in a dark brown, semi shiny, Albany slip glaze. It is boldly marked on the bottom 'Minnesota Stoneware Co., redwing'. Minnesota Stoneware opened in 1880 and remained in business until joining the merger forming Red Wing Union in 1906. There are some runs and other minor manufacturing flaws in the glaze. There is also a small, shallow chip at the base. This spot is not very noticeable and could be covered up with a dark marker or stain. This jar is in good condition overall having no other chips or cracks. . It would work well as a vase or as a holder for kitchen utensils.
