Léonie Lebas – Still Life with Meat – 1888
Léonie Lebas was a French painter of genre scenes, landscapes with figures and still lifes. She was active in Paris in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
Lebas became a member of the Société des Artistes Français in 1884 and exhibited at the society's Salon. She was best known for her small format representations of Paris street scenes during the “Belle Époque” period (1880-1914), reaching a fair amount of notoriety.
This high-quality painting, made in 1888, represents a still life with a large cut of meat and crockery. It has had past repairs and touch-ups, but will require a bit more work (or not) to return it to its original state.
