Abbey on the Lake - Late 18th Century
Romantic scene of an ancient abbey on the decline, situated on the edge of a lake in a mountainous setting. A couple of peasant figures can be seen on the far shore, and a white heron in the foreground. The location could not be positively identified, but it could be an artistic rearrangement of the abbey of Hautecombe.

Noted on back: 1770 and initialled M.D.?
Medium: Oil on wood.
Condition: Good overall condition. A clean horizontal split will require restoration.
Dimensions: 22.5 x 30 cm. / 8 ¾ x 11 ¾ in.
