Alfred Chagniot – Venetian Objects – Circa 1960
Oil on canvas post-impressionist still life painting depicting several Murano glass vessels and figurines set out informally on a table. The view through the window sets the scene in Venice. The painting’s title, “Objets vénitiens”, is written on the reverse. A number also appears on the back of the canvas (BE-1966). We believe this is an inventory number, either from a gallery or show where this painting was exhibited, or from an auction house. It is unlikely it represents the year of execution.
Alfred Chagniot French painter of figures, nudes, portraits, interiors, landscapes, harbour scenes, seascapes, still lifes, was born in Paris on April 24, 1905 and died in Clichy-la-Garenne near Paris November 29, 1991.
