Leon J. Friedheim (American, 1871-1936) Oil on canvas board, c. 1900. Signed lower right, "L. J. Friedheim." Lovely post-impressionist painting of winter trees. The use of color and perspective, with the trees looming in the mid-ground on the side of a road and the buildings and clouds foreshortened in the background, emphasize the loneliness of the barren trees, even surrounded by human habitation. An attractive, unexpectedly meditative painting. Sight: 19.5" H x 15.5" W. Framed: 26.25" H x 22.25" W.
Provenance: Toomey Gallery, 2004.
CONDITION: Excellent condition, including the giltwood frame.
Artist Bio: Leon J. Friedheim grew up and lived in St. Louis, MO.
Subtle pastel-toned impressionist winter landscape by a underrated artist. Solid and beautiful giltwood frame. Excellent value!
