"Still Life with Chair." Oil on canvas, signed "Gilmour" lower right. I could find nothing about the artist. A lively and cheerful, bright-colored still life of plants and fruit on a kitchen table. Sunlight streams into the room, illuminating the view. Many layers of paint applied with darker black and blue layers peek through stripes and crinkles of impasto bright greens, yellows, blues, and pinks, which evoke an energetic, spring-like feeling just as early spring flowers sprout from the dark earth. Gilmour also uses the impressionist painting technique of strips or stripes of colors or even dots making up an image that can only be appreciated fully from a slight distance. For example, see the top of the chair. Dates from the mid-20th century. Sight: 20" H x 24" W. Framed: 25" H x 29" W.
Provenance: From a Bronx, NY collection.
CONDITION: The painting is in excellent condition with no stains, tears, repairs, or blemishes. The custom giltwood frame with a linen liner is new.
Pictures don't do justice to this painting. It's much prettier in person.
