1900s Straits Chinese earrings set with 3ctw diamonds in 20k.
These are big size studs, at 15mm, they are the sort that will cover all or most of your earlobes. It is a sophisticated look preferred by some, not necessarily girly.
They are made very robustly, lush prong and bezel work, with thick, solid, screw back ear posts.
Made at the early turn of the last century, these studs are hard to come with good quality diamonds. When they do, and if they are somewhat distinct (not as commonplace as another Straits pair), it’s always a pleasure to show them to the world.
The diamonds in this pair are set in a swirl, appearing like a flat conch, though each stud is built on three levels and not flat. Its appeal is also in its full roundness, very lovely on certain face or hair styles.
These earrings are cocktail perfect, size wise, and while they do not shout distinction they do exude an immediate sentiment as an ‘heirloom’ beauty.
In these old cluster studs, the solid gold work also pushes the diamonds away from the earlobes. In essence, this is what separates an antique pair from a vintage pair.
These studs will dazzle even when worn alone with no other accessory.
Collect them while they are still in the marketplace, so many do not want to part with them now.
Unmarked, but acid tests as 20k gold.
