This is a charming example of the earlier Norwegian Henning folk art figures (1960s to 1970s), hand-carved and hand-painted. The 5” tall laughing young lady is dressed in traditional costume and is likely an early example of “Kari” of the national personification of a Norwegian couple, Ola og Kari Nordmann. She has the classic delightful Henning expression on her face. Henning Engelsen was a Norwegian woodcarver and illustrator who started a workshop in 1947 and was very prolific with traditional Norwegian folk tales, animals and people. This figure is in fine condition with few chips or paint rubs.
