This is a lovely Georgian (CA 1790) table cut diamond ring. It features a closed backed setting with foiled diamonds. The ring has a gold (tested 14 K) shank, but the stones are set in silver as they always were at this time. The ring is a size 6, but could be resized by a jeweler used to working with antique jewelry. The ring features a nice sized center table cut diamond, with a surround of 8 other diamonds. Of course we can not weigh antique diamonds the same way we weigh modern ones; the stones would have to be taken out of the settings to do that, but I do have a tool which can tell me the size of a diamond, so one can get an idea. The center table cut stone has the same appearance as that of a `.3/4 of a carat modern stone; the smaller diamonds are rose cuts, and they are about the size of a .39 modern diamond. The ring weighs 4,31 grams, and it really has a lot of sparkle, especially for a ring that is over 230 years old. This is a lovely piece of history.
