What a lovey ring is this Georgian garnet cluster. The stones are closed backed and a lovely pinkish color. The ring is fashioned from unmarked but tested 14 carat gold. I think it was probably intended to be 18 carat, but the Georgians often mixed gold, and they did not have a digital tester, so many of these pieces often turn out to be 14 carat. I believe this ring to be circa 1770-80. It is a size 8 and 1/4, but could be resized by a jeweler used to working with antique pieces. The ring weighs 4.14 grams, and the top of the ring, with the stones, measures 3/4 of an inch East to West, and the same North to South. I love this one; it's such a nice size.
