This is a lovely piece of history. This is a bangle bracelet of marked 15 carat gold. 15 carat was discontinued in 1932 but was widely used in the Victorian , and Art Deco eras in England. The bracelet depicts, in natural pearls, two Haley's comets. The comet had appeared in 1835, and came back around in 1910. Victorians were fascinated by this phenomenon, and they created scores of pieces emulating the comet, most often in brooches. This is the first time I have ever seen a comet bangle bracelet. I am guessing it is circa 1880-1890. It is in perfect condition, with a safety chain. It measures 7 and 3/8 inches in diameter, though it is an oval shaped bracelets as these bangles generally are. It weighs 8.38 grams.
