I love these Battersea/ Billston Enamel boxes, and my favorite ones are the ones with a sentiment. As I collect all types of mourning items, I have a small collection of these boxes that have a mourning theme. I saw this one while in Florida, away from my collection, and bought it. Imagine my surprise when I looked on my computer at some old photos, and found that I already had this one, same art work, and same sentiment! The only difference is that the one I already had is yellow and this one is green. I had totally forgotten I had it, so now the second one is for sale. Is it circa 1800, and was most likely used for snuff, as there is no indication that it ever had a mirror as the patch boxes had. The box is in excellent condition for its 220 years. There is a small amount of rubbing of color on the bottom of the box, but there are no chips or cracks, and the lid closes tightly. The poignant motto is "In Memory of a Friend." The box measures 1 and 1/4 inches East to West, 1 inch North to South, and is 3/4 of an inch tall.
