This is such a lovely, feminine piece that I would really like to keep. I love hearts and rubies. Alas, I've kept far too much, and if I ever want to go to back to England and buy more, I must sell something. This is a Georgian piece, CA 1800. It measures 1 inch long and 5/8 of an inch wide. It weighs, with the chain, 6.4 grams. The piece is silver and the stones are set in silver , as diamonds always were at that time. The stones are foiled and closed backed. The center stone is a heart shaped ruby. We can not weigh antique stones the same way we weigh modern ones, but the center ruby is the size of a 1 carat stone. The pendant contains 8 more small rubies and numerous small rose cut diamonds. The pendant is in excellent condition. It comes with a gold chain of about 19 inches. This piece also contains some bales on the back. It was probably meant to be threaded with a ribbon when it was new, and it would still look lovely that way. I like the size of it. It is beautiful and will be noticed, but it is not so large and heavy that it could not be worn every day with jeans.
