This is a lovely paste necklace. It is vermeil (silver with a gold overlay) and is circa 1880. Good paste has always been prized. It was made by jewelers, using the best techniques, for a rising middle glass, or even for upper glass who wanted to keep their expensive jewelry safe. All the stones are present in this necklace and the color is so beautiful. The two lengths that make up the "chain" part are 7 and 1/2 inches long, and the middle part is an inch wide , so this would fit a neck the same way a 15 inch chain would. This necklace is French, and in excellent condition.
