This is such a sweet locket. It is crafted of 15 ct gold, unmarked but tested. and is circa 1890. I love the graceful shape of this piece; It does have a touch of black enamel and a flower, that is most likely a forget-me-not, but this piece is not necessarily a mourning piece. At this time black enamel became quite popular and was often used for sentimental pieces. This locket has a nice, tight fastening, but also, one that is easy to open with the provided catch. The locket measures 1 and 3/4 inches North to South, and 7/8 of an inch East to West at the widest point, and weighs 8.8 grams. This locket has such a sweet photo of a young child, but there is plenty of room for you to add your own photo. Personally, I never discard a photo that is in a piece; I'm sentimental that way, but I am happy to place one of my own choosing over an existing one. This piece is in excellent condition.
