These earrings are so beautiful, and in perfect condition. They are what the Victorians called Day and Night Earrings, or sometimes Top and Drop Earrings. That means that the top can easily be detached for daytime, or informal wear, and for evening or dressier times, the drop can be added. These are crafted from 18 carat gold, unmarked but acid tested. They are 1 and 3/4 inches long, and 3/4 of an inch wide at the widest point. They weight, together, 11.2 grams. They each contain 4 , closed backed, rose cut diamonds. The diamonds are nice sized, and they ate an unusual shape; almost an upside down heart shape. Of course we can't weigh rose cut diamonds the way we measure modern ones. I have a took that can approximate the size of a diamond or pearl by the shape, but I can' even use it on these because these are unusually shaped diamonds. They are lovely. These are earrings that are sure to be noticed. They are circa 1860.
