This is a very nice sapphire and rose cut diamond ring. The ring is crafted of unmarked but tested 14 carat gold. It contains three sapphires. While we can't weigh these antique stones without taking them out of their settings, the sapphires are the size of a 3/4 of a carat stone each. They are surrounded by smaller rose cut diamonds. The stones are closes backed and foiled. On the sizer, the ring sizes at 6 and 1/2, but that is probably because of the closed back. It fits my finger more like a size 7 and 1/2 It could be sized by one used to sizing antique jewelry. I was told from the English dealer from whom I bought this ring that it was circa 1900, but It looks a bit earlier to me, so I'll do some more research on that. It is rather unique in shape, size, and stone. Note: I did more research, and consulted with a colleague who is a gemologist, and he says 1820, which is more in keeping with what I thought, so I'm listing it as Georgian. The ring weighs 4.5 grams, and the part with the diamonds and sapphires measures 5/8 of an inch East to West, and 3/8 of an inch North to South. This is a lot of jewel power and flash for the money.
