What a beauty this one is! In fact, I have kept it for myself the last two years, but I have lost weight, and it is now too big for my index finger, and I have kept far too much, so the time has come for me to offer it for sale. I wish I could afford to wear and keep it all! This is a circa 1790 ring with an unmarked but tested 18 carat gold shank. It consists of rose cut diamonds, and a center garnet. The diamonds are set in silver, as they always were at that time, and the garnet is set in gold. The diamonds are closed backed, but the garnet is open. I suspect this is a sentimental piece, and perhaps, at one time, it held a lock of a loved one's hair behind a glass bezel. The absence of the bezel does not detract from the ring, but it could easily be replaced if desired. The ring is a size 8 and 1/4, but could be resized by a jeweler used to working with antiques. It is lovely and in amazing condition for its age. It weighs 2.7 grams, and the part of the ring with the gems measures a curved 5/8 of an inch East to West, and 1/4 of an inch North to South. All I can say about this one is that I would like to keep it for my own, and if I don't sell it, I will probably have it resized for my own finger. It is quite a bargain!
