What an amazing Georgian (ca 1790) ring this is. It is crafted of 18 carat (unmarked but tested) gold, and holds the largest amethysts I have ever seen in a ring of this age. The stone itself measures 1/2 inch East to West and 3/8 inches North to South. It contains a rose cut diamond on each shoulder , and amazingly, some of the original enameling is still visible on the back of the ring. The stone is close backed and foiled, and it is a size 7 to 7 and 1/4, but could be size by someone used to working with antique jewelry. The ring weighs 5.2 grams. Truly, they don't have this sort of craftsmanship anymore.
