I love these little Georgian Hearts, and I always buy them when I see them. This one is particularly i=nice with the garnet top. Yes, it opens, but normally one always leaves the piece empty. The back has writing in white enamel. I have several of these in my own collection, and i can usually translate (often they were in French), but all I am sure about the sentiment of this one is that it's something about being united, or at least that's what I think. In gold letter, are the words "UNTS A JAMATS" or possibly "JAMANS,: or JAMAIS. I'm sure someone here will be able to tell me what it means exactly. Anyway, the locket is framed with unmarked but test 9 carat gold, and it weighs 3.60 grams. It measures 1 and 1/4 inch long, and 5/8 of an inch wide. It is circa 1790. These little hearts are such wonderful pieces of history, and this one is perfect and unique.
